Scherzy was set to reprise the role of Grizabella (the one who sings Memory) whom she played in the London revival of the legendary feline musical back in 2014 leading the "furious" composer to brand her "crazy" and moaned she has made him look "an absolute twot" which we are certain is a made up word only used by very posh people in the House of Lords as it's a new one on us.
Andrew's rant also hinted that Scherzy could have been in line for a Tony Award had she took on the role - which would have also marked her Broadway debut - and has divided opinion with many in the theatrical circles claiming she's "wasting her talent" by choosing The X Factor over Broadway and others calling ALW out as petty.
Here at Pop Kulture we couldn't be more excited by the news. Don't get us wrong, we absolutely LOVE a musical and think Nicole is an incredible - and underrated- vocal talent but there's so many more shows she could take on after The X Factor. Grizabella is basically there to sing Memory and Scherzy is talented enough to take on other roles when the time is right and there's plenty of people who would gladly step into the paws of Grizabella.
Those moaning about Nicole's choice clearly don't watch The X Factor or appreciate how much the show needs her back on the panel. She was a fantastic judge when she guested in Cheryl's absence during Malariagate in 2010 and btw was the one who put five young solo boys together to make a group who decided to call themselves One Direction. No big deal.
She then caused a joyful stir when she joined the lineup full time in 2012 and frequently stole the show with her quips of "sha-mazing" and "no, baby, no". There was also the sensational Disco Week in 2013 where she served Donna Summer realness and had been served too many vodkas before the show. And who could forget when she told Rylan she was taking him through to the live shows and he broke down, bringing us one of the most memorable reality show moments in recent history. He then took her to visit pal and TOWIE star, Amy Childs at her salon. Don't get us wrong, we love Cheryl, but can you really see her attempting to say "shut uuup" in an Essex salon?
Nicole brought FUN to The X Factor, a quality they are desperately needing to inject back into the show, especially after the excruciating pain of last year's series. She cares about the contestants she's mentoring but doesn't look miserable when doing so which, let's face it, couldn't have been easy when mentoring James Arthur, arguably one of the worst X Factor winners in the show's history.
When Dermot was reinstated (in yet another attempt to resurrect the show and bring it bring it back to glory) there were rumours that Simon had told him to "name his price" and we'd be surprised if Nicole wasn't offered the same deal. We're sure she loves her art but when someone is handing you a cheque worth an unreal amount of money it must be hard to turn down.
Even if it wasn't about money, there is every chance Nicole just wanted to go back to The X Factor. She gets to wear pretty dresses every Saturday and sit behind a desk for a couple of hours instead of wearing a fur leotard in a hot, stuffy theatre for the sake of being on stage for a couple of minutes.
We can't wait to see Nicole back on the judging panel and hope Lord Lloyd Webber gets over his strop and finds someone else to step into the role soon.
And if he's looking for something to take his mind off the whole debacle, we hear Simon Cowell has a couple of job openings...
